Solange and I put a lot of time into creating the website. If you’re interested, there is some more information for you to read about the site. This page however is dedicated to our Aunt Lucille and it includes excerpts straight out of her “Family Favorites” cookbook, which provided the foundation and the inspiration for the Our Family Cupboard website.
Dedication
In life, old photos, postcards, letters and recipes are treasures reminding us of our rich family heritage.
Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same. For my daughter, Amie, i hope this recipe book will help you as you embark on your new married life in 2001. I wish you love, health and happiness always. Happy life! Enjoy cooking!
Appreciation and Thanks
Thank you to each one of my family an friends who took the time to share their favorite recipes with me. A special thanks to my husband, Bob, for his computer wizardry. It’s been a long five years compiling all the small notes, recipes on napkins, incomplete recipe instructions and the many calls to all who contributed to finalize recipe ingredient amounts. My family and friends, along with their recipes, have helped make this book possible. It is greatly appreciated.
My apologies to anyone’s recipe listed as an unknown. I have the recipes for many years and I have forgotten its originator. Hopefully it will be satisfying to the unknown contributor that his or her recipe was so delicious that it needed to have recognition in my recipe book.
Again, thank you to all that have contributed to the making of this book. I hope you will use these recipes often. Treasure this cookbook as a keepsake of all our friends and family gatherings that have always centered on eating. Enjoy.
My Family
My family and I are ready to serve our guests during a rained out Memorial Day. Maryland Crabs shipped in from Obreski’s in Baltimore saved the day. In this photo are from left to right, me, my daughter, Amie, and my husband, Bob.
Mom
In this photo my mom, Carmela and my mother-in-law, Fay are resting after helping with the preparation for Thanksgiving Day dinner. Many of their recipes appear in this book. Both are known for the delicious dinners at their family gatherings. Thanks mom for the memories and the recipes.
A Family Gathering
My daughter Amie and Mike and niece Christina and Andy held a progressive night out in their homes; cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at Amie and Mike’s and coffee, hot cocoa and desserts at Christina and Andy’s. We were invited to see each of their Christmas decorations and feast on their wonderful treats. This photo was taken on December 22, 2000. In this photo from left to right are Marilyn Spinelli, my sister-in-law; mom Carmela and pop Vito Spinelli; and myself, Lucille Vadala; in front are Christina, my niece and my daughter, Amie. Missing from this photo are my sister Olympia, my niece Nicole, and the guys – Bob, Nicholas, Mike and Andy. It was just one of our many enjoyable family gatherings.
