Sausage Bread
A Capone family holiday tradition. Delicious bread rolled with sausage and broccoli or spinach. Make it spicy or sweet. The choice is yours but either way it's sure to be a crowd favorite.
Ingredients
- Italian Sausage - 3 links (sweet or spicy)
- Frozen Chopped Spinach - 1 box (substitute for frozen chopped broccoli)
- Pizza Dough - 1
- Salt - To Taste
- Black Pepper - To Taste
- Garlic - 4 Cloves
- Olive Oil - 1 Tbsp
- Onion - 1/2
- Flour - 1 Cup
Instructions
Saute garlic and chopped onion in olive oil on medium heat.
Remove sausage meat from skin and add to sauteed onions and garlic. Brown meat. When fully cooked, add broccoli or spinach (must be completely thawed and drained). Add salt and pepper to taste. You may choose to add red pepper for additional spice. Cook for 5 more minutes and remove from heat. Allow mixture to cool.
While mixture is cooling, roll out the pizza dough into an even square shape. Add flour to the dough to make it easier to maneuver.
After mixture is cool enough to handle, spread it evenly on top of the pizza dough leaving 1/4 inch around the edge. Roll the dough up, starting from the bottom and pinch the edge as well as the ends, sealing the mixture inside.
Bake at 350 for 25 - 30 minutes. Slice, serve and enjoy!
We look forward to this every New Years!
