Polish Babka
Ingredients
- Butter - 1/2 c
- Milk - 1 c
- Water - 1 c
- Flour - 5 c, sifted
- Sugar - 1/2 c
- Salt - 1 tsp.
- Yeast - 1 pkg.
- Eggs - 2
- Raisins - 1/2 c
Instructions
Heat briefly; 1/2 cup butter, 1 cup milk and 1 cup water. In large bowl stir together 3 cups sifted flour, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon salt and 1 package yeast. With wooden spoon blend in milk mixture gradually, mix well. Beat in 2 eggs and 1/2 cup raisins. Gradually beat in enough flour to create a dough that can be handled. Turn dough on board, knead until dough is elastic adding flour as needed. Place in greased bowl turn dough so it is buttered on all sides. Rise for one hour or until double in size. Pounce down and place in greased tube pan, cover and let rise for the second time. Bake at 350° for 40 minutes.
