Red Velvet Cake
Ingredients
- Crisco Shortening - 1/2 cup
- Sugar - 1-1/2 cups
- Eggs - 2
- Red Food Coloring - 2 oz.
- Flour - 2-1/4 cups
- Salt - 1 tsp.
- Buttermilk - 1 cup
- Vinegar - 1 tbs.
- Vanilla Extract - 1 Tbs.
- Cocoa - 2 Tbs.
- Baking Soda - 1 tsp.
Instructions
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Make a paste of red coloring and cocoa. Add to creamed ingredients. Then add vanilla. Mix buttermilk in same cup where red coloring was mixed. Sift Flour, salt and baking soda together. Add to buttermilk; then add to creamed mixture. Beat well. Then fold in vinegar. Pour into two greased and floured 9 inch cake pans. Wrap pans in wet towels. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
Frost cooled cake with Cream Cheese Frosting.
