Mom's Red Sauce
Ingredients
- Sausage - 1 lb.
- Olive Oil
- Water
- Medium Onion - 1, chopped
- Garlic - 1 clove, chopped
- Whole Tomatoes - 2 cans
- Tomato Paste - 1 can
- Burgundy Wine - 1/4 cup
- Sugar - 12 tsp.
- Garlic Salt - dash
- Oregano - 1/8 tsp.
- Basil - 1/2 tsp.
- Parmesan Cheese - 1 Tbs., grated
- Black Pepper - to taste
- Cooked Meat Balls
Instructions
Cover the bottom of a large sauce pan with olive oil, add sausage and brown. After sausage is brown remove from pot; add onion and garlic and saute until golden. Quickly blend two cans of whole tomatoes in blender; add blended tomatoes, tomato paste, 1/4 can water (the large can), burgundy wine, salt and pepper, garlic salt, oregano, Parmesan cheese, and sugar. Stir well. Return sausage to sauce mixture. Simmer for 2-1/2 to 3 hours over low heat. Add cooked meatballs to sauce twenty minutes before finished cooking
