Grandma Grala's Apple Cake
Ingredients
- Sugar - 2 cups
- Butter - 1 stick, cut up
- Eggs - 3
- Vanilla Extract - 1 Tbs.
- Baking Powder - 2 1/2 tsp.
- Wondra Flour - 3 cups
- Salt - dash
- Milk - 1 cup
- Apples - 2 peeled, cored and sliced
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Cinnamon - 1 tsp.
- Butter - 1 Tbs., cut up
Instructions
In a bowl beat 2 cups of sugar, 1 stick of butter, cut up and 3 eggs. Beat for 5 minutes until well blended. Then add: vanilla, baking powder, Wondra flour, dash of salt and milk. Mix but do not over beat. Batter should be thick. Place batter in 9 x 13 baking pan. In a spearate bowl mix apples, 1/4 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Mix well. Place apples on cake in rows. Cut up remaining butter and place around the top of apples. Bake at 375° until slightly browned 15 minutes; then lower to 325° and bake approximately 45 minutes more. Check with toothpick to see if it is done.
